Background: The Paleolithic Era
• It’s generally accepted that the Paleolithic period spanned from the earliest estimated use of stone tools (about 2.5 million years ago) until roughly 10,000 years ago .
• The Agricultural Revolution (also called the Neolithic Revolution) began roughly 10,000 years ago, with widespread grain production and animal husbandry representing less than 1% of human existence .
• Paleo diet proponents blame the spread of agriculture for the so‐ called “diseases of civilization.”
• It’s been proposed that the human genome has not undergone sufficient mutation & evolutionary change to handle Neolithic food consumption without adverse health consequences. The big question is, how strong is the evidence behind this claim.
